mario

Silver Chomps are a new species of Chain Chomps appearing in Super Mario Galaxy 2. They work just like the other Chain Chomps in the game; however, these ones seem to follow their target, forcing the target to continuously move to avoid them or at least stay far enough away. Mario first encounters one on his way through the Rolling Masterpiece Galaxy as an enemy in the missions Silver Chomp Grudge Match and Masterpiece Speed Run towards the end of the course, the Silver Chomp attempts to ram into Mario and he must ram it off the edge, in the Speed Run mission, the Silver Chomp is slightly more aggressive now that Mario is pressed for time. Mario later encounters another Silver Chomp in the Slipsand Galaxy as an obstacle that must be avoided in Sailing the Sandy Seas mission, the Silver Chomp appears towards the end of the quicksand river near where the Power Star is and rolls along the Quicksand and will try to knock Mario off the Sand Bird, if the Silver Chomp hit parts of the Sand Bird, they will temporarily disappear so Mario must use Spin Jumps and maneuvers to avoid the Silver Chomp, four Silver Chomps also appear the end of Mario’s journey through the Battle Belt Galaxy in the missions Mini Planet Mega Run and Mini Planet Daredevil Run. Silver Chomps are invulnerable to Mario's attacks unless he uses a Rainbow Star to defeat them or a bouncy plant or shoves them off the edge with a durable object such as a Star Ball, as the aforementioned Silver Chomp boss in the Rolling Masterpiece Galaxy proves. Silver Chomps have red pupils that roll around in their eyes, which have yellow rims.

Names in other languages

In Japanese, Silver Chomps are called "Search Chomps" (Sāchi Wanwan; written サーチワンワン in Katakana), referencing their homing abilities, and their Chinese and French names are transliterations of their English name: Yínsè Wāngwāng (written 銀色汪汪) and Chomp Argenté. In German, they are called Rollender Kettenhund (Rolling Chain Chomp), although there is another rolling Chomp enemy. In Spanish, they are called Cadenas Mordelonas Buscadoras (Chain Chomp Searchers), and in Italian, they are called Càccia Categnacci (Hunt Chomps; singular Càccia Categnáccio.) Their internal name is WanwanSearch.
