Incoming Chomps first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and it's remake, in this game, they primarily appear in the second level of World 1 Watch Out Below!. The Incoming Chomps are first seen on an island in the background, but as a Yoshi approaches, one will jump high into the air to the foreground where Yoshi is and will try to land on him. In doing so, the Incoming Chomp destroys a large chunk of the earth creating a pit. Despite the large size of an Incoming Chomp, a Yoshi does not lose Baby Mario if he touches it, although the impact of the Incoming Chomp's fall tries to forcefully push the Yoshi down with it. Thankfully, it is easy to gauge where an Incoming Chomps will land as there are signs with an Incoming Chomp's face imprinted on it, these signs indicate where the Incoming Chomps will land. Incoming Chomps are completely indestructible and cannot be destroyed in any way. Incoming Chomps also appear in Marching Milde's Fort.

Incoming Chomps return in Yoshi's Island DS. In this game, they behave the same as they did previously however this time, they are much larger (possibly to distinguish them from the smaller Stompin' Chomp) meaning they can destroy larger chunks of the floor, in some cases, they can even knock Stork Stops down into the pits rendering them unusable. An Incoming Chomp once again cannot knock a baby off his back but they can shove him into the pits below, most of these pits have wind gusts, if Yoshi has Baby Peach, he can fly back out of the pits. Unlike the previous game, there are no signs to indicate where the Incoming Chomps will land however they always descend down the same pits they create. Just as before, Incoming Chomps are indestructible and cannot be destroyed however tossing an egg at one will cause it to appear in the Museum. Incoming Chomps are found in the Giant Enemy Exhibit.

Yoshi's New Island

Although Incoming Chomps don't appear in Yoshi's New Island a similar type of Chomp called the Flaming Chomp does. Flaming Chomps behave identically to Incoming Chomps except they emerge from volcanoes, are engulfed in flames, and will instantly kill a Yoshi.
